Careers

The Lift Clacton Way leads to successful employment...

...and this starts with our fantastic career zone team and resources. We offer regular employer contact and information, advice and guidance for all students from year 7 to 13. Highlights in the careers education calendar include the annual careers fair, year 10 work experience and the year 11 mock interviews. Support is offered throughout the year on Wow Wednesday and our CCA Edge tutorial programme that covers a diverse range of topics to ensure our students are equipped with the tools they need to plan for the future they want. Students also receive comprehensive IAG at key transition points, including the key stage 3 options, post-16 pathways selection process and post-18 planning, including information about both apprenticeship and university pathways. In addition to this, all students in key stage 3 and 4 have access to the Kudos software to research their careers interesting and post-16 opportunities. At key stage 5, we use a variety of online tools to enable students to search for the latest local and national apprenticeship vacancies, as well as searching for the best university courses matched to the student's interests and aspirations.

Work Experience

We value work experience at CCA

We believe work experience is a vital part of preparing young people for the real world of careers and employment in the future.

What do we offer?

We offer all students in year 10 a one-week work experience placement during the summer term. We encourage students to seek their own work experience.  If they are struggling, our Careers Zone can provide assistance through suggestions from their database.

Higher Education

What is Higher Education?

  • A bachelor's degree, like a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or a Bachelor of Science (BSc) - normally 3 years but can be 4 years if taken with a foundation year or part-time
  • A foundation degree is a combined academic and vocational qualification in higher education, equivalent to two thirds of an honours bachelor's degree
  • A degree apprenticeship is designed in partnership with employers and part-time study takes place at a university or college, with the rest of your time being with your employer. they provide an opportunity to gain a full bachelor's degree
  • HNC (Higher National Certificate) and HND (Higher National Diploma) - these are both work-related higher education qualifications

Consider higher education if...

  • You have a passion for learning and a strong interest in continuing your education
  • You are interested in a career that requires a degree-level qualification

Apprenticeships

What are Apprenticeships?

Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study.

As an apprentice you will:

  • work alongside experienced staff
  • gain job-specific skills
  • earn a wage and get holiday pay
  • get time for study related to your role (usually one day a week)

Consider if...

  • You have a strong vocational interest and know what career you are interested in
  • You want to gain a further vocational qualification
  • You are ready for the workplace and want to bring home a regular wage

Different types of Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships have equivalent educational levels, from GCSE right up to Degree level.

Apprenticeships take 1 to 5 years to complete depending on their level.

What are Degree Apprenticeships?

Degree apprenticeships are a type of programme offered by some universities since September 2015.

These programmes are being developed in partnerships between employers, universities, and professional bodies. They provide students with the opportunity to achieve a bachelor's or master's degree as a part of their apprenticeship.

Degree apprenticeships combine working with studying part-time at a university. Apprentices are employed throughout the programme, and spend part of their time at university and the rest with their employer. This can be on a day-to-day basis or in blocks of time, depending on the programme and requirements of the employer.
